Many of you know that I work with a sustainable development organisation called Empower. Since 2010 we have been working with a village in Malawi to foster entrepreneurism and build self reliance. As part of the process we have teamed up with Earthship Biotecture to build a community centre (if you are interested in housing and sustainability, I encourage you to check them out). Last year, sixty-four volunteers from around the world came together with the community and construction was started. But the build ran into problems, including donations that fell through and a shortage of materials. Only two of the eight rooms were finished.

The Community Centre will play multiple roles within the community of 38 villages and over five thousand people – the base for the community bank, meeting place, early childhood development centre, library, a seedbank, power generation, a government-sponsored dispensary and much, much more.

We are back, with a fundraising goal of $18,000 to help complete the build and assist the community become self reliant. Already we have raised close to a $1000, if you would like more information or to pitch in, just visit our fundraising page here.
