Watching last night’s Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix, I have to wonder why there are no female Formula 1 drivers. There have been a few Female drivers in F1 history, but there are none currently, and none coming up that I am aware of. Why?
Unlike many sports, Formula 1 is not one in which physical power or stamina plays a major role. Yes, F1 drivers go through intense strength training, especially for their arms and necks, but that is to survive a race, not to give an advantage in one. Furthermore, most F1 drivers are actually quite slight, and rely on intelligence, skill, experience and reflexes to win. Surely, these factors are as open to Women as they are to Men?
